50 minute film about Transition -
Why are we a Transition town?
The worldwide Transition Town movement started in 2006. There are now over 200 Transition Towns worldwide with almost 1000 starting the process of becoming a Transition Town. Transition Towns aim to change from high energy dependence to sustainability with lower energy use, and to make our communities more pleasant places in the future.
Oil production is peaking. Despite the world recession, oil production will peak in the next few years. The Oil Taskforce consisting of, Scottish and Southern Energy, Solarcentury, Stagecoach Group, Virgin Group, Yahoo, Arup, Foster + Partners and FirstGroup have made a major study and conclude that the effects of oil production peaking will hit the UK within the next 5 years.
Once oil has peaked, production will decline – and this at a time when China and India’s demand for oil is rising. Energy prices must rise – to a level we will find difficult to afford
The Transition Towns movement aims to help us cope with this through learning to use less energy. At the same time lower energy use means less CO2 and less climate change.

What do we do?
Tring in Transition has action groups that aim to make Tring a more sustainable town, more able to cope with rising energy prices and climate change. The action groups cover areas such as
· Energy conservation
· Waste and recycling
· Local food production
· Transport
We also aim to raise awareness of the problems facing us through film showings, meetings and discussions
